Active BeautyAn Introduction To Different Types Of Skin Care Products
An Introduction To Different Types Of Skin Care Products
Skin care products come in all shapes and sizes - and to suit all budgets! But, it doesn’t matter if you want to use natural, organic products, designer skin care ranges or generic products - it’s real important to make sure that the skin care products you choose will do the job they were designed for. The fact is that skin care products are not equal - some will do one job, some will even do more than one job but the chances are you’ll build up a stock of a few different types in your bathroom. Let’s take a look at some of the options here:

1.      Cleansers
It may seem obvious but cleansers do just that - they cleanse your skin. Some people (and remember we’re not just talking about women here, guys can - and should - take care of their skin as well!) think that they don’t need to cleanse. After all, if you wash regularly then why bother cleansing?

Fact is that washing can dry out the skin or - if you are prone to oily patches - it can even make your skin too oily. It might clean off obvious surface dirt, make-up and bacteria but what about what goes on underneath? A good cleanser will do more than just buff up the surface of your skin. It’ll attack bacteria and dirt on other levels. This, quite simply, makes it easier to keep your skin clean, fresh-looking and healthy.

2.      Toners
Again, toners by their very name do a fairly obvious job - they work to tone up your skin. Traditionally applied after a cleanser, a toner will firm up your skin and will help it go back to its natural pH balance. It’ll also get your pores ready for moisturizing.

3.      Moisturizers
Moisturizers don’t just help keep your skin smooth - they can also provide a protective layer that helps fight the effects of pollution. If you have oily skin don’t be fooled into thinking you don’t need to moisturize - it’s still just as important. Simply make sure that your choice of skin care product is right for your skin type (this goes for cleansers and toners as well).

Some people choose an all over moisturizer that can be used on both the face and body while others prefer to have one specifically designed for facial use and one or more for the rest of their body. So, for example, you might use a facial moisturizer and body lotion every day and keep tubs of hand lotion and foot moisturizers in the bathroom for occasional use. Moisturizers come in many forms including creams, butters, oils and lotions.

4.      Masks
Masks should be used regularly but always not on a daily basis. There are all kinds of masks out there to choose from. Some will give a deep clean, some will help with ageing and some will simply give you a quick lift kind of like having a facial at home.

5.      Scrubs
Some skin care products such as cleansers and masks will come with a ‘scrub’ element built-in but using a specific scrub as an alternative to/in tandem with a cleanser often suits many people. Scrubs are designed to help exfoliate the skin which is useful at getting rid of dead skin cells that can make the surface of the skin look dull.

The key thing to remember with any type of skin care product is that it’s always best to use one that suits your skin type. Using a dry skin moisturizer on oily skin might disrupt your natural skin balance even more, for example. And, put some thought into what’s in the skin care product you use - you aren’t just plastering lotions on to your body, they’ll be absorbed INTO your body. For this reason your skin will be a lot healthier and look a lot better if you use natural products whenever you can to avoid problems with unnecessary chemicals and additives.
